I want to share this concept art image of Salila, out of her element. If you’ve read Crown of Bones, you’ll know that means, out of the water! 💙💦

In this image below, we see her speaking with Samsen’s phantom in raven form. I promise, she is up to something big and a little bit deceptive. Okay, a lot deceptive, but she’s Mar and their agenda isn’t quite the same as the landers…

At the start of Curse of Shadows, Salila hasn’t been on land for a very long time, but once Teern lifts that restriction, she beside herself with joy. From the current draft of Curse of Shadows, Salila’s POV:

There’s nothing I love more than a plunge in the Nulsea pools, the briny swirls welling up from the crust of the old lands long ago submerged. No tainted water here…

“…keep an eye on Kaylin, child.” (Teern instructs her)

            Excitement ripples through me as I catch a glint in his eye. “How close?”

            “Dog his steps, I think is the term.”

            “On land?” I break the surface in a full circle back-flip.

            “Do it well and your restrictions will be lifted.”

She’s going to be very excited about that, and it will cause some catastrophic changes for all of our characters.

For one, we are going to see here in these surprising situations with the Heir, or ex-heir I should say. You know, surprising as in Wow, she’s doing that? Also, we’ll see her fully clothed!

Salila is one of my all time favorite characters to write (ever since The Blood in the Beginning) mainly for her voice in the story and the radical growth arc she takes.
